Kaitlin Elliott Morelli

May 30, 1987 – October 12, 2014 Greensboro

Kaitlin Elliott Morelli lived her young life loving her family and friends and providing exceptional care for her patients. Kaitlin earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May of 2009 and went on to work as a registered nurse at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. On May 9, 2013, Kaitlin was awarded the Nursing Excellence Award wherein registered nurses and licensed practical nurses are recognized by their peers for their "commitment to excellence, innovation, compassion, integrity, caring and collegiality within their practice area."

Kaitlin had a passion for photography, was an avid traveler, and loved capturing memorable moments in people’s lives. She was a member of the Blazing Soles running family in Chapel Hill, NC and some favorite races she participated in were the Uwharrie Mountain Run in 2010 and 2011, the Rugged Maniac in 2011, and the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon in 2011. She helped her team navigate the Blue Ridge Relay in 2011-2013.

Kaitlin was preceded in death by her beloved grandfathers, Joseph Charles Morelli and Troy David Dillinder, and her Godmother, Denise Long. She is survived by her loving family: her parents, Dominic and Nana Morelli; her brother, Troy Joseph Morelli; her grandmothers, Martha Morelli and Yoshiko Dillinder; her Aunt, (Erma) Loraine Dillinder Farabow; her Uncle, Andrew Farabow; her cousin, Matthew Farabow; her Uncle, Danny Dillinder; and her Aunt, Terri Mozingo. Kaitlin is also survived by her family at Baptist Hospital and all the members of Team KEMO who loved and supported her and the Morelli family during her battle against pericardial mesothelioma, an extremely rare cancer of the heart.

Kaitlin will always be remembered for her generous laugh, her wit and sense of humor, her sense of adventure, her selflessness, and her tireless work ethic. In lieu of flowers, Kaitlin would be honored if donations were made to help Gary Fortwengler, a close family friend who is self-employed and who is also bravely battling cancer, at http://www.gofundme.com/cfhk6k or to the American Cancer Society
.

A service to celebrate Kaitlin’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, 314 Great Ridge Parkway, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
